Wie bitte? Sie lesen den Titel und sagen sich: „Eigentlich reichen mir die dauernden Klimastreiks und Klimademos vollauf – was sollen wir die Jungen noch mehr für Politik begeistern?“

Ich selber gehöre schon eine ganze Weile nicht mehr zu den ganz Jungen. Trotzdem ist es mir wichtig, dass die Jungen Politik als dynamisch, lustvoll und als etwas Kreatives begreifen. In der Schweiz können wir dank dem Milizsystem sehr konkret dort gestalten, wo wir leben und wo wir ein direktes Interesse an Gestaltung haben. Das ist die grosse Chance in unserer Demokratie! Nur – wer will sich noch engagieren und exponieren? Wie bringen wir die nächste und übernächste Generation dazu, politisch aktiv zu sein? Die Frage stellte sich mir insbesondere anlässlich der Jungbürgerfeier in Laufen. 

Die Bereitschaft, sich politisch in einem Amt zu engagieren hat sicher abgenommen, nicht primär bei den Jungen.  Stille Wahlen oder längere Vakanzen gehören heute in kleinen Gemeinden fast zur Regel. Trotzdem können Hürden abgebaut werden, damit die kommenden Generationen sich wieder zur Verfügung stellen. Mit den Klimastreiks haben die Jungen einen ersten Schritt in die Politik getan. Sie können sich für ein Thema begeistern, wollen ihre Zukunft mitbestimmen, spüren die Gemeinschaft Gleichgesinnter und vertiefen sich in Grundlagen. Dazu gehört auch, wie die Schweiz und ihr politisches System aufgebaut sind, wie Gemeindeversammlungen, Volksinitiativen, aber auch Lobbying funktionieren und dazu dienen, politische Anliegen durchzusetzen.

Wir sollten den Jungen nicht nur unsere Strassen, Plätze und Räume für Klimastreiks- und Konferenzen überlassen. Vielmehr müssen wir ihnen im Rahmen von politischen Institutionen eine Plattform bieten. Ein Beispiel auf kantonaler Ebene ist der Jugendrat Baselland. Bereits 14-jährige können Mitglied sein und damit z.B. an Vernehmlassungen im Kanton teilnehmen.

Auch die Gemeinden haben die Möglichkeit, beratende Jugendkommissionen zu schaffen und damit den Jungen eine ständige Mitwirkung zu garantieren. Ich bin überzeugt, sie können es dann kaum erwarten, nach dem 18. Geburtstag das erste Mal zusammen mit Gleichaltrigen an der Gemeindeversammlung zu erscheinen oder den eigenen Abstimmungszettel auszufüllen.

Daneben gibt es einen Strauss anderer Chancen, die ergriffen werden sollen, um Jungen den Einstieg in die Politik zu ermöglichen, gerade auch mit der Digitalisierung.

Die einfachste Methode überhaupt, um Jugendliche in die Politik einzubinden ist billig, uralt und bewährt. Sie wurde von keinem wissenschaftlichen Zentrum entwickelt und von keiner Politologin geprüft: zuhören – ernst nehmen – machen lassen!
